Alloa started this match against Forfar keen to build on their dramatic win over St Johnstone in midweek. Forfar were also keen to build on their opening day victory over Berwick.
Alloa immediately went on the attack and in the third minute were unlucky when striker Andy Brown rose unchallenged above the Forfar defence but his header went over the bar.
Three minutes later it was Alloa's Ross Hamilton who had a golden opportunity when he connected with a Richard Walker cross to fire in a fierce shot, but the Forfar keeper parried the shot towards Hamilton but saw his return shot balloon high over the bar.
Forfar work hard and got themselves back into the match and Paul Tosh had a chance in the 22nd minute when his well struck 20-yard shot shaved the outside of the post with Gary McGlynn well beaten.
Forfar came close again in the 29th minute when Paul Shields outjumped the Alloa defence to connect with a Tosh cross but his header went narrowly over the bar.
Forfar took a deserved lead in the 48th minute from a Tosh penalty awarded after Paul Mortimer had clearly fouled David McClune inside the box.
Alloa levelled things in the 59th minute when striker Brown was on hand to knock in from close range a Michael Daly cross.
Alloa's pressure played off when they took the lead in 79 minutes after Brown Ferguson had fired home from the penalty shot after David Lowing had pulled down Hamilton on his run towards goal.
The Alloa lead lasted only one minute when Tosh ran on to a Lowing cross and from close range slotted the ball past a helpless Gary McGlynn in the Alloa goal.
Forfar secured the three points when in the 84th minute Jay Stein knocked the ball home from one yard out when he was on hand in a packed goalmouth to knock home a rebound shot from David King.
Forfar deserved to take the full points for their spirited display in what was a hard fought match.
