Alloa Athletic 0 Gretna 3
An early goal and two more at the end gave Gretna a flattering victory in the first ever meeting between these sides. Unbeaten Gretna were not complaining as they bounced back from dropping points to Partick Thistle last week and stayed clear of Morton at the top of Division Two.
Alloa's James Stevenson was quick to test keeper Alan Main from 30 yards, but the early stages were dominated by the visitors with top scorer Kenny Deuchar flashing a header just wide and David Bingham forcing Gary McGlynn into an acrobatic save. From the corner, defender Derek Townsley was left unmarked and made no mistake with a close- range header.
Gretna's David Nicholls volleyed over from the edge of the box and Steve Tosh also went close to a second goal, but Alloa finished the first half strongly with Jose Quitongo skinning his man on the right before Main pushed his shot away at the near post.
Alloa had plenty of possession after the break but they failed to create anything, and Bingham, Gavin Skelton and Tosh all had chances at the other end.
Gretna's extra quality and full-time training were finally telling, and after Kenny Deuchar clipped the post skipper Chris Innes made it 2-0 with a looping header from another corner-kick. Ryan McGuffie completed the scoring with a confident finish two minutes from time.
