Alloa, battling relegation, held second-placed Morton to a draw in a hard-fought match.
Alloa had a dream opportunity to take the lead when they were awarded a penalty kick in the seventh minute. Alloa striker Ross Hamilton ran on to a Jamie Stevenson pass and, as he rounded Morton keeper David McGurn heading for goal, the keeper pulled him down. Robert Sloane took the spot-kick, but McGurn went from sinner to saint when he made a brilliant save.
Veteran striker Andy McLaren was a thorn in the Alloa flesh and he spurned opportunities to give his side the lead in the 13th, 14th and 19th minutes.
Alloa fought back and Michael Bolochoweckyj came close for the home side in the 23rd minute when he took on the Morton defence and beat two defenders, but his final shot went past the post.
In the 51st minute Morton came close again from an Andy McLaren shot, but Alan Creer in the Alloa goal, who had an outstanding match, brilliantly saved the fierce shot.
One minute later McLaren again troubled the Alloa defence when his persistent play won a corner, and from the flag-kick Bolochoweckyj cleared a Peter Weatherstone shot off the line.
Both sides tried desperately in the closing minutes to take the points from this match, but in the end a draw was a fair result. On today's display, Morton did not appear to be the length of the division away from Alloa.
